Featured Director:
David Lynch

For its inaugural edition, 1 Director 50 Posters features the work of David Lynch—a filmmaker whose films offer a rich foundation for visual interpretation. Known for his surrealist imagery, psychological depth, and fragmented storytelling, Lynch’s body of work invites both abstraction and symbolism, making it an ideal subject for exploratory poster design.

Lynch’s films often blur the boundary between dream and reality, interior and exterior, repression and revelation. These dualities are not only thematic but also visual—expressed most notably through his use of color, particularly red and blue. These two tones, recurring throughout his films, became the starting point for the visual identity and curatorial structure of the 2025 exhibition.

By selecting Lynch, the project sets a clear precedent: directors whose work carries both cinematic influence and visual complexity. His filmography provides designers with ample narrative and atmospheric material to engage with—while also appealing to an audience that appreciates cinema as both story and aesthetic form.
